In this day and age when we work more and get to spend less time outside enjoying nature and the elements, why not consider taking the time to put your dreams into action? Below are some tips to get this process in motion and start getting the most out of your backyard.

• Consider your options. Do you want a patio? If so, do you want to use pavers or natural stone? If you have a pool, what type of poolscape are you looking for? Again, pavers or natural stone are both options. You may also want to consider an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit/fire feature or a paver driveway. And finally, what about plantings? Do you want trees, shrubs or flowers? Or all three?
  
  
• Take stock of your property. Get outside and walk around the yard to make a list of areas that you think could use some enhancing. Your goal is to make each area an extension of your indoor living space brought outside.
  
  
• Get your plan on paper. Take the time draw out a rudimentary sketch of each area so you can get a birds-eye view of the overall project. This sketch will help give the designer you hire better insight into how you would like to proceed with your plan.
  
  
• Execute in logical stages. Once you have your plan you may have to decide if you can do it all at once or if you have to landscape one area at a time. Areas that require lighting or irrigation may have to be first on your list since they often require more logistics compared to area’s that do not have these features.
