March 2008

From Our Staff

Dave Joslin our Landscape Supervisor has been very busy this winter doing what we call take offs – this is looking at blueprints of Landscaping plans for commercial bids, pricing out the job from the smallest plants to the very extensive lawn installs.

Dave Joslin is originally from Vermont, he graduated from UCONN in 1969 with a degree in Horticulture & Landscape Design.

He’s been working in this industry since 1967.  He enjoys working outdoors and the enhancement his creativity brings to your yard.    In his free time (ha! we don’t let him have much) he really loves to ski at Mad River Glen in Vermont.

Maybe you have seen Dave and his crew around town installing trees, shrubs and perennials in people’s yards. First and foremost you need to pick the right planting for the areas you have in mind. With proper care, watering, pruning and thinning out your plantings will look beautiful for years to come.

Check out just a couple of the many commercial/municipal installs around town, the new Nayaug Elementary School and my personal favorite our install at Home Depot.

The Spirit of Spring

Large ViewRemember Daylight Saving Time is this month, yeah!   On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.  Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time will begin on the second Sunday in March (March 8, 2008) at 2:00 a.m., and ends the first Sunday in November (November 2rd).  So get ready to Spring Forward!

March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day - Did you know that over 34 million Americans are of Irish descent.  That’s almost nine times the population of Ireland.  Our very own Ed Quinn of Irish descent will also be celebrating his birthday on this day and that’s not blarney.

In Conclusion
It appears that March is going to come in like a lion.

Here’s hoping it leaves like a lamb.

Notes From The Editor

We have had some snow, sleet and freezing rain, confirming that we live in New England.  I personally prefer snow not the other stuff.

Until spring brings us some green, you might enjoy the Annual Hebron Maple Festival, March 8th and 9th Tapping trees, pancake breakfasts and a craft fair on the 10th.  These are just a few of the many things going on during the festival, for details go to www.hebronmaplefest.com
