Sleepless Saving Time
Twice a year, we change the clocks for daylight-savings time. Twice a year, my normally punctual assistant arrives late to work the Monday after we do so. I finally had to find out why. "Do you have a problem remembering to spring forward or fall back?" I asked. "Oh, no," she said, pouring herself a cup of coffee. "What gets to me is staying up until 2 a.m. to change my clock."

Notes From The Editor
Did you visit us at the 29th Annual Connecticut Flower & Garden Show?
We raffled a free landscape consult with 3 hours design time and enjoyed meeting people.

Congratulations to the winner from Lebanon, Mr. A. Gervase.

Visit us at the Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show March 5 thru March 7 where we will again raffle a free landscape consult with 3 hours design time.

StayCation is again the buzz this year – check out our website: www.eaquinn.com and look through our gallery of pictures for some ideas.

For those of you who missed our February newsletter (you can see it on our website), we have been working this winter on some changes.

We can convert our customers’ accounts to be paid via a charge or debit card. Over the years, we have functioned as a collection agency….giving customers an open line of credit for the services we provide, send bills and wait to be paid.  While 99% of our clients are excellent at keeping their accounts up to date, we are finding it necessary to make a change in order to keep pace with the ever-changing economy.

The way this works:

  • We will send a form for you to fill out with your credit or debit card information, which will then be recorded in our secure, firewall-protected server.
  • When a scheduled service is completed, we will then process a charge for that invoice only and mail the invoice and receipt confirming payment.

No matter what you buy or where you shop, today you have to pay as you go! Whether its gas, food, appliance repair or internet shopping, payment is required at time of purchase.  If you would prefer please call and speak with Joan or I if you are not comfortable sending that information in the mail.

From our Staff

Matt Bagshaw, our Accounts Manager and Mike Stone our Property Maintenance Supervisor want you to know it is time to prune trees and summer flowering shrubs while they are still dormant.  Spirea, honeysuckle and privets can be rejuvenated if needed.  Inspect your trees for gypsy moth caterpillar nests, prune them out do not put in the garbage or compost pile - destroy them – crush, drown, burn them.

It is time to get on the list for pre-emergent crabgrass control and the first fertilization application for a luscious lawn this year.

Mulch - time to think about calling for an appointment.  We recommend an application of bed weed control before mulch as this will cut down on weeds significantly.

Mulch works to improve soil conditions and helps maintain moisture by decreasing water loss.  It provides insulation for soil, keeping it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summers.

Organic mulches provide nutrients and improve soil quality and fertility as they breakdown each year.   Around your mulched beds, consider paver borders.

Paver borders reduce maintenance costs, and are good for water retention.  This is a way to provide uniqueness to your yard with an eye-catching border.  Thinking about resale values - borders provide approximately a 4.4% increase in value to a home.
The Spirit of spring

If the weather is fine, visit the 20th Annual Hebron Maple Festival March 13 & 14, 2010 tapping trees, pancake breakfasts. These are just a few of the many things going on during the festival for more information and times go to www.hebronmaplefest.com

Remember Daylight Saving Time is this month; Daylight saving time will begin on the second Sunday in March (March 14).  So get ready to Spring forward one hour!

Spring officially begins March 20

Bring a little spring in now - force branches of forsythia, flowering quince or pussy willow for that feeling of spring.

March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day

Ed Quinn celebrates his birthday on the 17th along with Gary Sinise, Kurt Russell and Patrick Duffy all good looking guys of Irish descent.

In Conclusion

We are all looking forward to Spring and getting out there and doing what we are best at – making your yards a haven of rest and tranquility.
