Let us Re - introduce: Steve Virgadaula.
He’s our paver guy or his more formal title is Brick Division Manager. Steve’s been with us for five years now and knows his division from the ground up. (Yes a pun was intended!)
He’s a member of the National Concrete Masonry Association and the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute.
If you’ve ever met him you can attest to the boundless energy and the intensity in which he brings to all aspects of his chosen profession |

Besides the added value and visual appeal to your property, it takes a relatively short time to accomplish a low maintenance, weather resistant wall, walk, patio or driveway. Colors, shapes and patterns make it easy to customize the job to compliment the existing landscape and home.
The increased use of interlocking concrete pavers is creating definite improvements in the design of driveways, patios, walkways and walls. All of them go beyond the standard broom-finished bland concrete that will turn gray and crack.
Pavers overall offer the lowest life-cycle costs in comparison to other paving products such as asphalt, poured concrete and stamped concrete. Pavers are easily maintained by regular sweeping and occasional rinsing. Tough stains can be pressure-washed with appropriate cleaning solutions or simply spot cleaned with a brush, cleaning solution and water.
Pavers if needed can be removed if there is an issue under them that needs to be addressed, and restored to their original state without looking at an ugly patch on asphalt or cracks that need to be filled in with concrete.
For us in the northeast pavers resist the deterioration of freezing and thawing cycles and de-icing salts better then asphalt and poured in place concrete. The beveled or chamfered edges of pavers prevent plows, shovels and snow blowers from catching on the edges. They are almost indestructible – interlocking pavers are a flexible system and allow for movement.

Spring Suggestions |
Mulch - We at E.A. Quinn Landscape recommend using a double shredded, pine bark mulch, which is our standard mulch and this year we are also carrying a premium, hemlock mulch. The bark mulch, as it breaks down, returns beneficial nutrients to the soil which feeds the plants. Although many of the dyed mulches are much desired for the red, black or brown coloring, these mulches give only an aesthetic look and no nutrient benefit. These dyed hardwood mulches can easily harbor Artillery fungi and for those of you with light colored homes, this pest can be difficult to overcome.
Mosquitoes - We can all help in small ways to cut down on mosquitoes. Prevention - it’s as easy as dumping out standing water that’s accumulated over the winter in empty containers, toys, tarps, and tires. Whatever catches and holds water is a breeding ground for mosquito larvae. Remember to do this after rain as well.
There is some evidence that if you plant marigolds (my son’s favorite) this will reduce the number of skeeters in the yard as well as repel snakes in your yards.
April is also the time to dig and transplant many perennials. Early flowering varieties such as bleeding heart, columbine, heuchera, iris and pyrethrum should wait until after they bloom. Don’t forget to fertilize your trees, shrubs and perennials. Their need for nutrients is great as they come out of dormancy.
Call Matt at 633-0115 ext. 23 about our fertilization program for your lawn – now’s the time to start. |
