Kids' Views on School
A little girl had just finished her first week of school. "I'm wasting my time," she said to her mother.
"I can't read, I can't write - and they won't let me talk!"

Notes From The Editor |
WOW! September and the children are headed back to school. Most of the summer was extremely hot and humid, and the rainfall in the beginning was intense.
We would love to have some input for our newsletter. Is there anything in particular that you would like to get information on, have some interesting ideas for the yard or pictures of some of your favorite yard areas please feel free to send your thoughts or ideas to: info@eaquinn.com |
From Our Staff |
Beginning at the end of August through mid-September is the time to plant seed or lay sod. Cool nights and warmish days combine to have your lawn growing like crazy. We would be happy to come out to overseed, slit seed or hydro-seed - which saves time and money.
Aeration - this will help with root zone growth, relieve compaction and allows oxygen into the soil. It is time to fertilize that lawn. It needs a little boost to help those roots get off to a good start before winter. Matt’s the man to talk to at once again ext. 23.
Speaking of cooling off it is a good time to begin planting again. Add fall colors with mums or perhaps you have decided to spruce up that planting bed, you may want to add some shrubs or perennials to enhance some unused space. There are a lot of later blooming plants that would really make a difference in your planting beds. Let us know what you want and we can help you make it happen.
I know it seems early to be thinking about leaves falling all around us, just an early thought, if you are not on the list and want to be - call Matt at you guessed it ext. 23.
Now is an excellent time to plant something that will give you years and years of benefit. Call Ed to come out and give you the benefit of his vast experience.
Whether it is to make a real difference or simply sprucing up or cleaning up the experts here at E.A. Quinn will make your space something to be proud of. Give us a call. |
First Impressions |
Let us help you create this for you in the front of your home. The point is, the front yard plays a huge first impression of your home, and the front entry landscaping is the crown jewel or it can be the missing front tooth in your child’s smile, just as you know a new tooth will come in, so can you have a more attractive entry to you home.
Yes, I am speaking of curb appeal, the front entry can be a unique site for hardscape, plants, light fixtures, or a water feature inviting your guests to relax and enjoy
Balance and unity are especially important to front entry landscaping because of the need for a clean and attractive appearance. Hardscape for sidewalks should be of a different material to distinguish it from the asphalt driveway.
Focal points for visual interest is key, one seen from the street, and then make a focal point for the view as you walk up the sidewalk to the front door. Call Ed or Karen to discuss ways to spruce up your first impression of your home. |
Ornamental Grasses
|
“Grass is the forgiveness of nature – her constant Benediction…Forests decay, harvests perish, flowers vanish, But grass is immortal.” – John J. Ingalls
Long before there were buildings, highways, native grasses dominated the landscape. From the dry, barren patches of land to the swamps that cities were built on, these grasses were a major part of the terrain. Few other plants are as versatile, carefree, and dramatic as ornamental grasses.
Grasses can handle both drought and wet conditions. Did you also know that grasses could endure our New England freeze and thaw cycles? Ornamental grasses can be used many different ways in the garden. A single plant makes an attractive specimen or accent plant. Tall grass species make for an excellent background or screening plant. The smaller type grasses can be used creatively in rock gardens or as border plants in your perennial gardens.
There is no other plant that can provide as much noise and movement in the yard. The foliage of these grasses will rustle in the wind, adding sound to your garden.
When planning your landscape, why not use one of these ornamental grasses. They are a great alternative to common landscape plants and are an innovative addition to any garden! |
