Notes From The Editor
OCTOBER IS HERE!
My favorite month of the year, crisp nights and pleasant days oh and my birthday, what’s not to like!

We at E.A.Quinn Landscape Contracting would really like this to be an interactive newsletter, with you, sharing your ideas and thoughts. Our email address: info@eaquinn.com. Also check out our website: www.eaquinn.com.
Included this month with your invoice is a Customer Survey which we would really appreciate if you would fill out and return with your remittance. We need to hear from you about how we are doing, whatever you have to share helps us to better serve you.
We will hold a raffle again this year of all returned Customer Survey checklists. Two surveys will be drawn and the winners will receive a $50.00 Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, which is redeemable at a multitude of businesses. There is a list provided with the certificate of all participating businesses, restaurants and stores. |

A Few Notes From Our Staff |
"Don't Leave The Leaves." Rake all the leaves from your lawn. Some trees drop their leaves all at once while other trees may drop their leaves slowly all winter. Sycamore trees, oak trees, beech trees, and willow trees, are probably the worst at dropping their leaves. Leaves left on the lawn may cause fungus or mold problems in the lawn that are much easier prevented in the fall than cured in the spring.
Give Matt a call at extension 23 to schedule your fall cleanup a.s.a.p. because before you know it we will be gearing up for our snow season. Snow mold is often caused by a layer of leaves left on the lawn too long. By cutting the grass a little shorter in the fall you reduce the chance of it laying down and creating a snow mold problem Matt says October is a good month to apply lime and especially for feeding those deep roots.
Dave and Carlos are interested in putting color in your garden and Mum’s the word. You can get them in a vast array of colors to enhance that entrance or maybe your walkway. Your might want to try some Asters; they produce large clusters of delicate daisy-like flowers.
Planting or transplanting is best to be done now.
Spring Color - Bulbs if you want plenty of gorgeous blooms in the spring.
ANTI DESSICANTS
Please think about protecting your trees and shrubs this winter from windburn and dehydration with antidessicants. This is a waxy spray that coats and protects, and would be applied in late November and early December. Call Matt at ext. 23 to get a price for the trees or shrubs you want to protect |
Christmas Wreaths – Covenant to Care
|
This year is the fifth year that E.A. Quinn Landscape Contracting will be offering this festive service. Our intention is to brighten up your space as well as brighten the holidays for kids who don’t get what all kids want . . . presents and always on their list they ask for something for their mom or dad!
As in years past we will once again use the proceeds to buy gifts for the kids at this wonderful agency that tries to meet the wish lists of kids that are neglected, abused or living in poverty that just would not have presents during the holiday season. Please help us. Just one wreath adds to our chances of helping as many as possible with your wonderful generosity.
Covenant to Care has completed its twentieth year serving the largest number of children ever. They are a fantastic not for profit organization that works hard organizing many functions and programs. They find innovative ways to bring communities together for needy children during the entire year and to help improve the lives of Connecticut’s abused and neglected children. I hope that you will consider us when you begin thinking about what you’d like to do at your home or business for the holiday season.
Do a little early planning and leave it to us. With next month’s bills we’ll send you an order sheet for Christmas wreaths, garlands as well as poinsettias. If you’re interested we can deliver a beautiful poinsettia and/or hang your wreath or swag to brighten up a door or garage or maybe a lamp post. |
See You In The Funny Papers |
| Justin & Spencer Quinn went out duck hunting for the first time. They were out in the cold morning for hours, and although ducks were everywhere they hadn't been able to get even one.
Finally, Justin says to Spencer, "Maybe we ought to give this up."
Spencer replies, "Naw, let's give it a little while longer."
"C'mon, let's face it, we just ain't duck hunters."
"Well, let's keep trying. Maybe we're just not throwing the dogs up high enough! |
In Conclusion |
If you are irrigating – remember it is best done in the early morning. A thorough watering promotes deep roots so that our plants and lawns can sustain themselves better when we have little to no rainfall. We can come and check your timers and check the heads to make sure they are watering what needs watering and not the street.
Remember on November 2nd to set your clocks back – the official time is 2:00 a.m
