See you

papers

Mike Stone was walking home alone late on Halloween night.

It is dark, and the streetlights are out. Suddenly, behind him he hears BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Mike walks faster, but the sound keeps coming. BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Mike is worried he is being followed, he glances behind him and through the darkness, and he can just see an upright coffin.

No one seems to be holding the coffin; it is just bumping down the street behind him.

Mike is scared. He is sure it is following him! In an effort to shake it off, he turns a corner. To his relief, the sound stops. He keeps walking but before a minute has passed, he hears the familiar sound behind him again: BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Mike is terrified! He starts to run towards his home, but the faster he runs, the faster the coffin bounces along behind him!

Bumpity BUMP! Bumpity BUMP! Bumpity BUMP!

He pushes open his front gate, and runs up the path, fumbling for his keys. The coffin reaches the gate and effortlessly pushes it open. It is right behind him!

Finally, with shaking hands he manages to unlock his front door. He has no time to slam it behind him; the coffin is right on his heels! He rushes up the stairs, praying the coffin cannot climb after him.
BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!
The coffin pauses at the bottom of the stairs. Mike breathes a sigh of relief but ...

clappity BUMP... clappity BUMP... clappity BUMP...

The coffin is now climbing the stairs behind him. He runs to the bathroom perhaps he can lock himself in there! His heart pounds and his lungs hurt with the exertion of running for his life! He has only just latched the bathroom door when ...
CRASH!!!

The coffin breaks through the bathroom door!

What can he do? The coffin is nearly upon him! He reaches out for something heavy that he can throw at the coffin, and his hand comes to rest on a large bottle of cough syrup.

Desperately, he throws the cough syrup as hard as he can at the coffin and

(Wait for it) . . . . . .

Finally the coffin stops!!

From Our Staff
"Don't Leave The Leaves." Rake all the leaves from your lawn.  Some trees drop their leaves all at once while other trees may drop their leaves slowly all season. Sycamore trees, oak trees, beech trees, and willow trees, are probably the worst at dropping their leaves. Leaves left on the lawn may cause fungus or mold problems in the lawn that are much easier prevented in the fall than cured in the spring.

So give Matt a call at extension 23 to schedule your fall cleanup a.s.a.p. because before you know it we will be gearing up for our snow season.

A layer of leaves left on the lawn too long often causes snow mold. By cutting the grass a little shorter in the fall, you reduce the chance of it laying down and creating a snow mold problem.

Matt wants you to know that October is a good month to apply lime and especially for feeding those deep roots of your lawn.  It is also time to start to think about – ANTI-DESSICANTS protecting your trees and shrubs this winter from windburn and dehydration with anti-desiccants.  This waxy spray coats and protects, and would be applied in late November and early December.  Call Matt at ext. 23 to get a price for the trees or shrubs you want to protect.

The weather is perfect for planting... sunny days, cool nights  and there are many different choices. Of course, mums, kale and ornamental cabbages are for fall focal points to enhance that entrance or maybe your walkway.  Now is the time to plant some Asters, Echinacea, Sedum, Stokesia, Coreopsis, and Clematis, bushes or trees.

Dave, Carlos, and Marcellino are available to do your installs.  Not sure where to put what – or what to put where, call Karen at extension 28, she would be happy to help and do not forget upcoming Spring Color – Bulbs!

Christmas wreaths – Covenant to Care

This year is the sixth year that E.A. Quinn Landscape Contracting will be offering this festive service. We really appreciate that as you brighten up your space it brightens holidays for kids who do not get what all kids want . . .  presents and always on their list they ask for something for their mom or dad!

As in years past, we will once again use the proceeds to buy gifts for the kids at this wonderful agency that tries to meet the wish lists of kids neglected, abused or living in poverty that just would not have presents during the holiday season. Please help us. Just one wreath adds to our chances of helping as many as possible with your wonderful generosity.

Covenant to Care has completed its twenty first-year serving the largest number of children ever. They are a fantastic not for profit organization that works hard organizing many functions and programs. They find innovative ways to bring communities together for needy children during the entire year and to help improve the lives of Connecticut’s abused and neglected children. I hope that you will consider us when you begin thinking about what you would like to do at your home or business for the holiday season.

Do a little early planning and leave it to us. With next month’s bills, we will send you an order sheet for Christmas wreaths, garlands as well as poinsettias. If you are interested, we can deliver a beautiful poinsettia, wreath or swag to brighten up a door or garage or maybe a lamppost.
